Children in Scotland responded to an update provided by John Swinney regarding the decision not to extend additional childcare to 2 year olds.
John Swinney, Scottish Finance Secretary, presented the latest budget plans to the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 6th February 2013, including increased funding for colleges and housing but declining to extend childcare provision to all 2 year olds.
In response to the update provided by John Swinney around the decision not to extend additional childcare to 2 year olds at this stage, Jackie Brock, Chief Executive of Children in Scotland said:
"We are encouraged that Mr. Swinney did not rule out completely the notion of extending childcare provision to all 2 year olds if funding allowed but we call on him and the Scottish Government to identify what would be required to allow such a commitment to be realised. Whilst we appreciate that this may require changes at UK level we feel there are things the Scottish Government could lead on to make childcare provision for all two year olds a reality."
