The Scottish Government has published its response to the consultation on a proposed Rights of Children and Young People Bill.
The response highlights issues raised by Together and our members such as the role of public bodies in ensuring children can access their rights and the need to raise knowledge and understanding of the UNCRC.
The Scottish Government has announced that it intends to merge the proposed Rights bill into an integrated Children and Young People Bill, which will be placed before Parliament in 2013. This new bill will include measures to improve services for children and young people and will consider how children's and young people's rights can be taken forward by Scottish Ministers and the wider public sector.
A consultation on the new bill will take place this summer (dates to be confirmed). Together will be working closely with our members in the coming weeks and months to stress the importance of ensuring the UNCRC provides the framework under which any new proposals are framed.
