Included, Engaged and Involved Part 2: a positive approach to managing school exclusions

Date: 10th November 2010
Category: Education, Leisure and Cultural Activities

The purpose of the guidance is to develop and clarify national policy on exclusion from schools in the context of national and local government responsibilities and aims for children and young people.

The overarching aim is to support whole school communities, learning establishments and their partners to keep all children fully included, engaged and involved in their education, wherever it takes place.

The guidance will provide an opportunity for learning establishments and local authorities to reassess their local policy and procedures in line with national policy and emerging best practice. In addition, an annex is included which clearly summarises the legislative position around exclusion from school in Scotland.

The consultation period ends on 29 December 2010.
