  • Minimum age for marriage to be raised across England and Wales

    The minimum age of marriage has will be raised from 16 to 18. This will also apply to religious and cultural marriages not registered with the couples' local council. Children will not face penalties under the new law, but adults who facilitate their marriage within England and Wales, or abroad could face a fine and up to seven years in jail.

  • SCRA official statistics for 2018/19 published

    Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) released the figures on 25th July. They show that in the last year, 12,869 children and young people in Scotland were referred to the Children’s Reporter and 31,653 Children’s Hearings were held.

  • MSPs back giving children equal protection from assault

    On Tuesday 28th May, MSPs overwhelmingly backed in principle a bill to give children equal protection from assault. MSPs voted by 80 to 29 in favour of the Children (Equal Protection from Assault) (Scotland) Bill, with only the Conservatives voting against, after its first stage debate.

  • Consultation: Protective orders for people at risk of domestic abuse

    Closing date: Friday, 29th March 2019. The consultation seeks views on proposals to create new protective orders that could be used to keep people at risk of domestic abuse safe by banning perpetrators from their homes and on also seeks views on whether changes are needed to the current system of exclusion orders which allow a victim of domestic abuse to apply to suspend the right of their partner to live in the family home.
