A report by Professor Jane Aldgate reviews how embedding the Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) approach supports implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The Scottish Government believe that the implementation of the GIRFEC approach to children's services gives us an opportunity to make the UNCRC a reality in Scotland.

The report was published on 26th March 2013, ahead of the Children and Young People Bill which will have a section dedicated to achieving more effective rights for children and young people. The Bill is set to be introduced to the Scottish Parliament in early summertime.

The report describes in detail the linkages between the Articles of the UNCRC and the key elements of GIRFEC. Reading the report, it is apparent that the National practice model which incorporates the 8 well-being indicators (SHANARRI) into planning, decision-making and practice, is seen to endorse fully the Articles of the UNCRC.
