Earlier this year, a meeting was held at which representatives from civil society came together to discuss human rights compliance and monitoring in Scotland on everyday issues such as health, housing and inequality.

It was agreed to elect a Steering Committee for a six month period to explore the feasibility of:

  • Setting up an independent NGO that focuses solely on domestic human rights issues;
  • the added value of a Human Rights Consortium for civil society in Scotland as a collective and co-ordinated voice may be more effective;
  • evaluate the need for human rights capacity building for NGOs.

A Steering group of eight people was elected for a six month period to take forward the process.

Glasgow Disability Alliance (GDA) will be the lead organisation and will provide administration.

As a first step, the Steering Group is seeking to make a list of those groups in civil society who wish to be identified with this initiative and wish to be kept informed of future meetings and activities.

If you are interested please complete this form and return to Shirley Bradley at GDA.
