New UNICEF Report: A child is a child: Protecting children on the move from violence, abuse and exploitation

Category: Refugee and asylum seeking children

31st May 2017

A Child is a Child highlights that the world has seen almost a five-fold increase in the number of refugee and migrant children traveling alone since 2010. Even when they travel with their families, they face several terrible risks and often fall through the cracks.

World leaders are meeting in Sicily for the G7 on 26-27 May to discuss the state of the world. Only a few miles away, almost every day children are arriving on those same shores, escaping their homes in the hope of building a better life in a safer country.

UNICEF are calling on G7 leaders to acknowledge that children on the move are first and foremost children and to come up with plans to protect them and ensure all their rights are protected every step of their way.
