Educational attainment gap data: Coalition calls for investment in vulnerable pupils
The most recent figures on attainment and leaver destinations indicate that school leavers with Additional Support Needs (ASN) are more than twice as likely to be unemployed (15.1%) than those with no ASN (6.3%) nine months after leaving school.
Over 153,000 pupils in Scottish schools are classed as having ASN (more than 22.5% of the pupil population). The Scottish Children's Services Coalition (SCSC) are continuing their campaign to put pressure on MSPs to focus on this vulnerable group who are at risk of being left behind by austerity.
The SCSC have issued a news release and written to Mr Swinney, calling for greater investment in tailored services and resources for children and young people with ASN if the Government is to close the attainment gap and achieve the First Minister's aim of equal opportunity for all.
