Clan Chidlaw's training programme for autumn 2017 will include workshops on 'Children's Hearing', 'UNCRC in Practice', 'Child Law in Court', 'Throughcare', and 'Effective Participation in Children's Hearings.'

Children's Hearings

This training is suitable for those with some or no experience of the children's hearing system. It aims to give an understanding of the system, so that delegates will be better equipped to explain to children and families involved what is happening and what to expect.

UNCRC in Practice

This training is suitable for anyone working with children or in the field of law. It aims to raise awareness of the rights of children and young people as it has been widely recognised that children and young people have a relatively low awareness of their rights and yet a comparatively high rate of success in terms of vindicating their rights. The interactive course examines the development of children's rights and the recognition of children's rights and responsibilities in Scots Law.

The following training sessions on the UNCRC in Practice will take place:

Wednesday 1st November 2017, 10am-1pm (Course Code UNAS1)
Anderson Strathern, 50 George Square, Glasgow, G2 1EH

Thursday 2nd November 2017, 10am-1pm (Course Code UNAS2)
Anderson Strathern, 1 Rutland Court, Edinburgh, EH3 8EY

Friday 3rd November 2017, 10.30am-1.30pm (Course Code UNT3)
Thornton's, Whitehall House, 33 Yeaman Shore, Dundee, DD1 4BJ

Tuesday 7th November 2017, 10.30am-1.30pm (Course Code UNB7)

Child Law in Court

This course is relevant for anyone working with children or their families in the field of child law. It aims to look at the balance between parental rights and responsibilities and children's rights in the context of section 11 orders with particular focus on how a child participates in the court process and how their views are obtained.

This interactive session will consider the changes brought in by the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 in relation to the provision of Continuing care and After care provisions. It is suitable for anyone working with children or in the field of child law.

Effective Participation in Children's Hearings

This session will look at exchanging experiences and perspectives among professionals working with and for children and families involved in the Children's Hearings System. The workshop will assist solicitors, advocacy workers, social workers and panel members in embedding effectives participation into daily practice.
