Child Healthcare in Scotland: Overcoming the Challenges to Equality

10th November 2017
Time: 08:45-16:30
Location: Royal College of Physicians, 9 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH12 1JQ

This conference aims to explore whether Scotland's children and young people have equal access to the highest standard of healthcare and to consider the ways in which the challenges to achieving health care rights and equity might be met.

Speakers include Minister for Childcare and Early Years Mark McDonald, who will discuss 'How we can reduce health inequalities for children and families', and Dr Catherine Calderwood, Chief Medical Officer, who will speak about Scottish policy and how it supports children's healthcare rights throughout their life journey. There will also be panel discussions with representation from healthcare professionals, children and young people, and the third sector.

After attending the seminar, it is hoped that delegates will have a better understanding of:

  • Health issues and challenges facing different groups of children and young people
  • The way Scottish Government policy can support children and young people
  • Good practice in relation to children and young people's health and emotional wellbeing
  • Age appropriate care and good practice for young people in adult services.
