Children’s Views in Legal Proceedings

This conference will explore children and young people's participation in judicial and administrative proceedings that affect them and discuss the challenges inherent in balancing children's views and their best interests.

The conference aims to :

  • Consider the extent to which Scots law and practice complies with the UNCRC
  • Explore the ways in which children are enabled to participate in decision making in courts and children's hearings
  • Provide an opportunity to discuss the latest research, legislation and policy initiatives
  • Discuss the challenges inherent in balancing children's views and their best interests

Speakers include Professor Kay Tisdall from the University of Edinburgh and representatives from Scottish Women's Aid and West Lothian Council. The event will be chaired by Children and Young People's Commissioner Bruce Adamson. Together's Director, Juliet Harris, will also be speaking on Scotland's compliance with the UNCRC.
