30th May 2017
Time: 18:00-20:00
Location: 23 Lauriston Street Floor 3, Edinburgh EH3 9D

This shared equalities and human rights hustings will offer an opportunity for collective members and others to consider the manifesto commitments of the political parties within the context of prevailing equality and human rights issues.

The Equal Representation Coalition is a group of organisations that work to overcome discrimination and exclusion for marginalised and under-represented groups. Members include Engender, Women 50:50, Inclusion Scotland, BEMIS, CEMVO, Stonewall Scotland, Equality Network and the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights.

These organisations and others have been at the forefront of identifying, challenging and pursuing substantive responses to prevailing inequalities such as disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender re-assignment, race and religion.

The 2017 General Election is a unique election. The next UK Government will have the responsibility of negotiating the UK's departure from the European Union. This process will have direct implications for equalities and human rights issues across the UK, including Scotland.

The Equal Representation Coalition welcome the opportunity to hear from and discuss with political parties their intentions, aspirations and commitments for the coming period. It is very important that the needs of our diverse citizens are part of the General Election discussions and the Coalition encourages and extend a warm welcome to all those who wish to attend.

The event will consist of short speeches from each of the five largest parties in Scotland, followed by the questions to and answers from the candidates / representatives.

The venue is wheelchair accessible and we will have BSL interpreters and live captioning. Assistance with travel costs is available for disabled attendees if required. Please let the Coalition know any other arrangements which would improve access to the event.

The event will also be livestreamed online for those who are unable to attend in person.

Questions for the hustings may be submitted in advance or any general enquiries to events@inclusionscotland.org

Engender are able to contribute to costs which will make it easier for women to attend, including travel and care costs. Please contact Maxine.Blane@engender.org.uk for more information.
